`I had differences with Nafisa'

MUMBAI, JULY 31. Gautam Khanduja, the Mumbai-based businessman and fiancé of former Miss India Nafisa Joseph, who committed suicide on Thursday night at her residence here, today told police that he had temperamental differences with the her as a result of which he broke their proposed marriage slated to be held on August 7.

In a four-hour questioning session, Khanduja, accompanied by his lawyer, also told police that Nafisa was upset over his decision to call off the marriage. Later, in a signed statement to the media, Khanduja reacted to the media reports, saying it would be incorrect to state that he was not divorced, as his divorce had taken place on February 10, 2003.

He further said ``my silence so far has been nothing more than my overwhelming grief at the loss of someone I love so deeply and to whom I was engaged.''

Usha Joseph, mother of Nafisa, had yesterday claimed that the model-turned-VJ had been upset over her problems in her relationship with Khanduja. She said Nafisa was to marry Khanduja, however, he had decided to break off after Nafisa grilled him on certain issues relating to his divorce papers in respect of his earlier marriages. — PTI
