Oil crisis

Sir, — This refers to the report that the Government is considering reduction in excise or customs duty on petrol and diesel to contain the oil price hike (Aug. 17). If a price hike is inevitable, so be it. Neither the Government nor the oil companies can be held responsible for the shooting prices of oil since it is a worldwide phenomenon. Any attempt to artificially hold the price line will have far reaching consequences and things will get out of control.
