Letters to the Editor
Sir, All analyses of the former Kerala Chief Minister, A.K. Antony's resignation suggest that he was weak and ineffectual. This is far from correct. The manner in which he handled the 20-day agitation by State Government employees proved his determination to stay the course in the face of adverse pressure. It was the Congress high command's policy of vacillation and the lack of support from the Cabinet that led to the downfall of the Antony Government. K. Parameswaran, Thiruvananthapuram
Sir, Mr. Antony, a man with a clean and efficient image, had to demit office thanks to the infighting in the Congress and lack of cooperation from other partners of the United Democratic Front. Unless Oommen Chandy rises above inter-party and intra-party squabbles, Mr. Antony's resignation is unlikely to make a difference to the fortunes of the UDF, which was routed in the Lok Sabha elections. D.B.N. Murthy, Bangalore
