Letters to the Editor
Sir, Besides acquiring physical fitness, our sportspersons need to get mentally tough. We had a number of near misses at the Athens Olympics with some of our participants finishing within the top eight. Sohan G. John, Alappuzha, Kerala
Sir, India's performance should not surprise us because as a nation we lack pride. We also have the uncanny knack of drowning the sorrow of monumental defeats in the ocean of rejoicing we do for the tiniest of victories. Of course, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore did well to win a silver medal but let us not get so intoxicated by this victory that we cease to feel the pain of our much larger defeat. S.A.R. Adil, Bangalore
Sir, Unless we reach the top 10 in the medals tally we should not even think of organising the Olympics. Going by our performance of a medal every four years, it should be around 500 years from now. Yugal Joshi, New Delhi
