4 new M.Com degree courses

CHENNAI, OCT. 10. The Madras University would introduce four new M.Com degree courses in specialised areas from the academic year 2005-06.

The specialised areas are Entrepreneurship; International Business; Insurance and Financial Services and Accounting and Finance.

B.Com, B.A (Corporate) B.C.S., B.Com (Bank Management), B.Sc. (Mathematics) B.A. (Industrial Organisation), B.Sc. (Computer Science) or B.C.A. graduates can join this two-year course, provided these courses have at least two papers in the main B.Com degree course.

Another course the university would offer in the next academic year is M.A. in Natya (dance and drama), a five-year integrated course, introduced under the credit-based semester system. All these courses and proposals were approved by the Academic Council, held on Saturday.

In M.Com (International Business) the subjects include international business environment; economy and marketing and foreign trade documentation in the core course.

In the elective, the students will have for project work - communication skills for international business, total quality management, business process outsourcing and a foreign language. M.Com (Accounting and Finance) will include cost estimation and control, financial management, quantitative techniques.

Students of M.Com have to score an aggregate of 60 per cent to pass in the postgraduate programme. Students of the integrated M.A. (Natya) can all also get a B.A. (Natya) degree after successfully completing six semesters. This B.A. degree would be on par with any other B.A. or B.Com degree.

The university would also offer four new M.A Degree courses: Indian Economy, Environmental Economics, Business Economics and Corporate Economics.
