KOCHI, OCT. 14. Delay in carrying out the capital punishment awarded by the Supreme Court to those involved in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi would tantamount to contempt of court as a review petition from the convicts was dismissed five years ago, the Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, has said. Addressing presspersons at School of Communication and Management Studies at Kalamassery here today, Dr. Swamy said that he had written to the President, requesting his help to bring the matter to a logical end. In the letter, a copy of which was circulated at the press meet, Dr. Swamy has charged Ms. Gandhi with possessing wealth disproportionate to her known sources of income. To a question, Dr. Swamy said that the first meeting of the newly-formed Rashtriya Swabhiman Manch would be held in the first week of November at New Delhi. Meetings would be organised in all State capitals. The former Union Minister and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convenor, George Fernandes would be the convenor of the forum. On the winding up of the Tehelka commission headed by Justice S.N. Phukan, Dr. Swamy said that it was appointed by the then Union Ministry and the findings should have been discussed in Parliament before winding it up.
