There were excesses during Emergency: Rahul
AMETHI,
OCT. 14.
In comments that could be music to the Opposition ears, the Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi, has said there were excesses during the Emergency, which were wrong.
Currently on a four-day visit to his constituency, Mr. Gandhi told reporters that his opinion was that it was a ``very complicated'' situation during the Emergency and "there were excesses which were wrong."
To another question, Mr. Gandhi took a dim view of the performance of the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government in the State, saying that its rule was bereft of any development work. PTI reports from New Delhi:
The Congress today downplayed Mr. Gandhi's admission that there were excesses during the Emergency.
"The era is over. There has been lot of talk about it and attempts to mislead people. People had given us punishment and we had accepted it," the party spokesperson, Girija Vyas, told reporters.
