Sugar buffer stock period extended

NEW DELHI,
OCT. 14.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its ex-post-facto approval for extending the period of maintenance of 20 lakh tonnes of sugar as buffer stock for a year beyond December 17, 2003. The buffer subsidy from the Sugar Development Fund and the additional credit from the banks received by the sugar mills shall be utilised for payment of cane price dues to the sugarcane growers. This would facilitate liquidation of cane price arrears.
