Gogoi welcomes truce call

GUWAHATI, OCT. 14. The Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, has welcomed the truce call by the National Democratic Front of Boroland.

Mr. Gogoi, told The Hindu that a letter confirming the truce offer was handed over to the State Government through a messenger. The Government would forward the letter to the Centre for follow-up action.

Earlier the outfit had given the ceasefire call from Friday through media.

The Union Minister of State for Home, SriPrakash Jaiswal,told reporters here yesterday that the Centre would reciprocate the offer the moment it received a proposal from the State. In a statement e-mailed to newspapers on October 8, the NDFB president, D.R. Nabla alias Ranjan Daimari, and the self-styled Lt. Colonel B. Susranggra, chief of the Boroland army, said the ceasefire would begin from October 15 to create a congenial atmosphere for talks with the Government of India. The statement asked its commanders to immediately "suspend hostilities."
