It was wrong

Sir, — Your observation in the editorial, "Minorities and backwardness" (Oct. 12), that the Election Commission's decision was "patently unreasonable" is not tenable.

The heavens would not have fallen if the decision to set up a special commission for the backward sections among the minorities had been postponed for a while.
