Ex-MLA's son killed

AGARTALA, OCT. 23. Son of an ex-MLA of the ruling CPI(M) and a police constable were killed while two others, including a BSF jawan, were seriously wounded by a group of insurgents suspected to be of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) in Dhalai district today, police said.

Gaganjoy Roaja, son of the late Ananda Mohan Roaja, ex-MLA, was taking tea in a stall at Durgapur in Gandacherra, a sub-divisional town when two insurgents draped in shawls opened fire and shot him dead, police said.

One BSF jawan who was also taking tea in the shop was seriously injured when bullets hit him, they said.

On receipt of information, a contingent of police chased the insurgents and an encounter ensued at neighbouring Nabodapara where police constable Samar Debbarma was killed, police said adding an unidentified villager who was caught in the crossfire was injured and admitted to Gandacherra Hospital. — PTI
