Apunba Lup to meet PM on October 30
By A Correspondent
IMPHAL,
OCT. 23.
The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has invited the leaders of the Apunba Lup, the group of 32 social organisations agitating for the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, for talks on October 30.
The Apunba Lup leaders have accepted the invitation, viewing it as an opportunity to find a solution to the problem.
The invitation follows two rounds of talks with the Manipur Governor, S.S. Sidhu. The leaders also held a meeting with the Union Minister of Home, Shivraj Patil, during his visit here. The Apunba Lup organised a two-day conference that concluded this afternoon.
People's views
Opinions from a cross section of people were invited while preparing for the talks with the Prime Minister. Most of the speakers at the conference said the Apunba Lup leaders should do their homework properly and consult experts before the meeting with the Centre as legal issues were involved.
