Did Veerappan commit suicide?

CHENNAI, OCT. 23. The chief of the Karnataka Special Task Force today said that the `local police' were investigating reports that the forest brigand, Veerappan, was not killed in the October 18 encounter but had committed suicide.Mr. Jothi Prakash Mirzi told mediapersons at the airport before leaving for Bangalore that "only investigation will reveal whether it was a suicide or killing."

"STF is not investigating into the matter. It is being done by the local police," he said. — PTI
