Communal clash in jail: six injured

VADODARA, OCT. 23. Undertrials, belonging to two different communities, today clashed at the Vadodara Central Jail, leaving six inmates injured.

The Jail Superintendent, H.M. Varma, said all the injured were admitted to the Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad Government Hospital after being given first aid by two medical officers of the jail. The condition of one of the injured was stated to be critical.

Mr. Varma, who reachedthe ward along with his subordinate officers and wardens to quell the clash, told UNI that eight inmates, lodged in two separate cells in the ward, clashed this morning in order to `prove their supremacy.' Claiming that the situation was now under control, the Superintendent said all those involved in the clash had been shifted to different wards, and in view of the Ramzan month, special measures had been taken to avoid recurrence of such incidents. The Raopura Police have registered a case. A report has been sent to the Inspector General of Prisons. — UNI
