It was spot on

Sir, - The analysis on the Maharashtra elections (Sept.24) was outstanding. Though I have no interest in electoral politics, as a professional mathematical statistician I appreciate a job well done.

The Hindu analysis debunks several myths including the vote-catching power of Sonia Gandhi and the various vote banks. The overall picture suggests no polarisation but a fragmentation.

Compared with what your paper has done, `analysis' and `predictions' that have appeared in other publications are superficial and amount to little more than soothsaying.

This again shows that when it comes to serious reporting, The Hindu is in a class by itself in India.

N.S. Rajaram,
