CHITRADURGA, OCT. 26. S.R. Umashankar, Deputy Commissioner, has said that "Hasiru Pade" (Green squads) has been formed in 44 schools to create awareness among the children about the environment. Presiding over a review meeting here on Monday, Mr. Umashankar said that an action plan had been prepared to launch "Hasiru Pade" in 100 schools with the Chitradurga District Science Centre. He asked the District Science Centre to release a grant of Rs. 1,000 to meet the expenses. He also directed the science centre to train teachers in the remaining schools in the district. He said that an award would also be instituted to the school, which takes up the cause effectively. S. Mallikarjunaiah, president of the District Science Centre, explained the centre's programmes. M.R. Dasegowda, secretary of the centre, revealed that the centre was also planning to conduct a three-day science camp for children. G.S. Kariyappa, Deputy Conservator of Forests; L. Rangappa, Deputy Director of Public Instruction; S.A. Mathad, Planning Director, and B. Rajesh, Deputy Environmental Officer, were present on the occasion.
