HYDERABAD, NOV. 2. The Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, has ordered a departmental inquiry into the exchange of fire between the police and naxalites belonging to Praja Pratighatana in Warangal district in which a constable, Madan, was killed. In a statement here on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members and said the police maintained utmost restraint even though naxalites opened fire. He said the Government would extend all help, including financial assistance, to the constable's family. Salary for the constable's service period would be given to his family besides providing employment to his wife or any other family member. The exchange of fire would not have any impact on the peace talks initiated by the Government, he added.
Old city violence
The Minister said that a comprehensive probe was on into the incidents which occurred in the city in the last two days and lauded the police for their handling of the situation. Stating that the Government was committed to maintaining communal harmony and the law and order in the city, he asserted that anybody violating peace and order, however big he might be, would not be spared. He expressed concern over the injuries caused to the police and media personnel during the funeral procession of the DJS activist, Mujahid, on Monday.
