HYDERABAD, NOV. 2. V.B. Rajendra Prasad, the man who launched a dozen faces on the celluloid screen and a filmmaker who has produced several hits, has been named for the prestigious Raghupati Venkaiah Memorial Award for his outstanding contribution to the film industry. The award is to be given away by the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at the Nandi Awards function on November 6. Mr. Prasad produced 34 films and directed 22 more in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi over a career spanning four and a half decades.
Respected figure
Father of actor Jagapati Babu and a respected figure in the film industry, he started his career under the banner of Jagapathi Art Pictures, as a producer with the film, `Annapoorna,' while his directorial debut "Dasara Bullodu" was a runaway success. He is remembered for films like "Aaradhana, Antastulu, Adrushtavanthudu, Aatmabalam" and more in Telugu. Mr. Prasad has been the president of the Film Nagar Cooperative Housing Society for the past 12 years and among his achievements is the construction of the "Film Nagar Daiva Sannidhanam" - a temple with nine deities. A gentleman to the core, he treats work as worship and is respected for his dedication and involvement with the film industry. He told The Hindu that he would cherish the award more, as it was announced two days before his birthday, which falls on November 4.
