Inter student ends life; coaching centre attacked

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, NOV. 2. Worried over his ability to secure a seat in engineering college, an Intermediate student undergoing long-term coaching committed suicide by hanging on the Narayana coaching centre premises at Dilsukhnagar.

J. Rajashekhar (18) was found hanging in the reading room on Tuesday morning. A suicide note purportedly written by him stated that he had resorted to the extreme step as he could not fare well in the examinations. Through the note, he appealed to college authorities to return to his poor parents a part of the Rs. 25,000 fee he had paid.

Son of a labourer couple, the teenager, hailing from Parnipalli village of Cuddapah district, joined the institute three months ago. He studied Intermediate course in Cuddapah district, the Malakpet police said. He got 2,797th rank in last year's EAMCET and could have got a seat in engineering college.

In depression?

"Keeping in view his parents' financial position, he decided to make serious attempt for the second time and secure a seat in Government college," the Malakpet Sub-Inspector, K.K. Vishwanatham, explained.

After mobilising money from several known persons and his village sarpanch, Rajashekhar joined the long-term coaching programme for the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination.

Of late, he reportedly slipped into depression and was always pondering over whether he would get good score in the test or not. He was living in room no. 5 of the institute. Last night, he went to the reading room. A lecturer of the institute saw his body first around 7 a.m., the police said.

ABVP activists held

On learning about the student's death, four activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad

(ABVP) allegedly attacked the institute and damaged furniture inside, holding the institute management responsible for the student's death. All the four -- Madhusudhan Reddy, Yashpal, Dinesh Kumar and Sravan -- were arrested.
