CPI(M) leaders mourn death
By Our Special Correspondent
KOLKATA,
NOV. 12.
Leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today wore black badges across West Bengal as a mark of respect to Yasser Arafat.
Jyoti Basu, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Anil Biswas and Biman Bose, all CPI(M) Polit Bureau members, wore black badges and observed a two-minute silence at the party's secretariat today. "Kolkata always expressed solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
The people of this city believe that the Palestinian people will emerge victorious one day. We had felicitated him for his struggle against imperialist forces.
During my last visit to Israel, I could not meet him as he was busy elsewhere," Mr. Basu said adding that he had known Arafat and found him to be a leader of great stature.
