Centre asks for details
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
NOV. 12.
The Central Government has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to provide it detailed information on the arrest of the Kanchi Sankarachrya, Jayendra Saraswathi.
The Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, told The Hindu that "the State Government has been asked to make available to us all relevant information at its disposal. We have also asked them to ensure that the situation is kept under control."
Senior Central Government officials pointed out that the Centre was keen on not getting involved in what was primarily a decision by the State Government. However, there is a feeling that given the sensitivities involved, the arrest could perhaps have been made after Diwali.
