CHENNAI, NOV. 12. More than two years have elapsed after a gang attacked a person, who was once associated with the Kanchi Mutt, and his wife in Mandaveli in Chennai. But till now police have not made any progress in the case. Again in September 2002 Radhakrishnan, who was earlier associated with the Mutt, his wife and an attendant, Gopalan, were attacked with knives by a two-member gang in their house located on Norton First Street, Mandaveli. The motive behind the attack was not known then. When contacted, a senior city police officer, told The Hindu that "there is no progress in the case. The case is still being investigated." Mr. Radhakrishan also said that there had been no progress in the case. Eyewitnesses had said then that the gang barged into the house and attacked the family members. When the victims cried for help, neighbours rushed to their rescue and the assailants fled the spot. Police added that they picked up a person belonging to MGR Nagar here, but were unable to arrest and prosecute him allegedly due to political interference.
