Chidambaram party to merge with Congress

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, NOV. 24. The Congress Jananayaka Perevai, the party that was formed by the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, would formally merge with the Congress here tomorrow.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, Ambika Soni, said here that Mr. Chidambaram, who had become a member of the Congress earlier, would be present on the occasion.

The function would be held at the AICC headquarters tomorrow evening following which the members would meet the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the State unit of the party has not been associated with the function.

When asked, Ms. Soni said she was not aware of this, as she had been put in charge of the affairs of Tamil Nadu only on Tuesday, after arrangements for the function had been made.
