Jawan killed in avalanche; two missing

SRINAGAR, DEC. 29. An Army jawan was killed and two of his colleagues went missing after an avalanche struck a patrol party near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said today.

Three Army personnel went missing on December 24 after the avalanche struck in Trehgam sector, the sources said. The body of a jawan, Charu Bahadur, was recovered by a rescue party on Tuesday.

Defence sources said the missing jawans were believed dead, as it was impossible for them to survive the harsh weather conditions.
