Fishermen given cash compensation

CHENNAI,
JAN. 18.
More than 1,500 families of fishermen on the Tiruvallur coast were today given cash compensation by the Government as part of its tsunami-relief.
At a function held near Ennore, the Minister for Rural Industries, B. Valarmathi, who is coordinating relief work in the district, distributed relief worth over Rs. 1.55 crores.
Seventy-nine families were given temporary shelters at Kargil Nagar near Sathangadu in Tiruvottiyur municipality.
The affected fisherfolk were from areas such as Nettukuppam (250 families), Thazhankuppam (238 families), Ennore Kuppam, Mugathuvara Kuppam, Kathivakkam, Ernavur Kuppam, Kasikoil Kuppam, Tiruchanamkuppam (200 families) and Nallathanneer Oidaikuppam (109 families).
