More funds for Cooum clean-up

CHENNAI,
JAN. 18.
The Union Environment and Forest Ministry has sanctioned Rs. 58 crores more for cleaning up of the Cooum river in Chennai.
Improvement to sewage treatment plants at Perungudi and Nesapakkam would be carried out so that the plants discharge treated sewage to the river.
This follows submission of a detailed project report by the Chennai Metrowater to the Centre. On receiving the report, the Union Minister, A. Raja, immediately ordered action, according to an official release issued here today.
