`Grant compensation after analysis'

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JAN. 18. Members of the Tsunami Relief and Rehabilitation Co-ordination (Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry) group have urged the Government to grant compensation after a careful analysis of the losses sustained, instead of on grounds of charity.

In a list of demands released today, the group urged the Government to adopt a more scientific and legal approach to the relief and rehabilitation schemes it has planned, post-tsunami. FIRs must be registered for missing persons, appropriate representation must be ensured of members of the society in relief teams, tsunami-hit families be given identity cards, and complaints redressal teams should be formed to address tsunami related problems, are some of the demands listed in the memorandum.
