AI's plea upheld

NEW DELHI: Air-India has won its appeal against the `replay' of the National Football League (NFL) match against Fransa Pax Club. Air-India will get the three points due to it, almost one-and-a-half months after the match was abandoned due to Fransa's failure to turn up for the round six match.

The AIFF executive committee and the disciplinary committee had several meetings before they came up with a token sanction against Fransa wherein its chairman Mickey Pacheco was barred from all AIFF tournaments while allowing his team to continue in the NFL.

The AIFF, however, was silent on the status of the Air-India-Fransa match and called for its replay. Air-India protested, through an official letter on February 24. The appeals committee finally set right the anomaly that its executive committee had failed to address. — Sports Reporter
