CHENNAI: Zak Trade Fairs & Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd., a leading organiser of trade shows based in Chennai, is set to achieve the distinction of conducting 200 exhibitions in India and abroad. The organisers have so far conducted 199 exhibitions covering 16 industries. According to Syed Zakir Ahmed, Chairman and Managing Director, trade shows which were used earlier for marketing products and services, have transformed to become the most effective way of launching, promoting and increasing sales of products and services. In the last decade and more India has joined the developed countries as a destination for all kinds of industrial trade shows. With the encouragement and support of the Central and State Governments the Rs. 1,000 crore industry was set to achieve an annual growth of 25 per cent, according to Mr. Syed Zakir Ahmed. He said for manufacturers, tradeshows were becoming important platforms to announce technological breakthroughs. Mr. Ahmed said the evolution and growth of Zak Tradefairs & Exhibitions almost closely followed the evolution and growth of tradeshow industry in India. Zak emerged into the scene when tradeshows were at infancy and exhibitions or consumer shows were happening in a small scale localised promotional events.
100 shows in three years
The company began its journey in 1994 with its maiden event "Interstyle India `94", a comprehensive show on fabrics and trimmings held in February 1994 in Chennai. Riding the industrial boom post-liberalisation in India, Zak achieved the milestone of 100th exhibition in March 2003, he said. While it took almost nine years to complete 100 exhibitions, the company has the distinction of reaching 200 mark in three years.
Future plans
The future plans of the Zak group included organising international exhibitions in the field of health and medical tourism, property fair, ethnic arts and crafts fair and security products, Mr. Ahmed said. The 200th exhibition will be Zak Buildtech Tradeshow' to be held on August 26 at the Chennai Convention Centre of Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam.
