Rupee closes higher against $

MUMBAI: The rupee on Monday closed higher against the U.S. currency on the back of dollar's weakness overseas coupled with persistent foreign institutional investment inflows into the equity markets.

In quiet trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened higher at 46.42/44 a dollar from last weekend's close of 46.47/48 but thereafter met with some resistance and after dipping to 46.4650, closed at 46.4550/4650.

However, the Indian currency closed weak against other major world currencies . — PTI
