Innings win for Visakhapatnam

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam scored an innings win over Vizianagaram but rain denied East Godavari an outright win over Srikakulam in the round-robin matches of the ACA North Zone unde-17 inter-district tournament (two-day matches) here on Monday.

East Godavari had Srikakulam tottering at 57 for six when rain put an end to the match with 10 overs remaining. GDS Suresh Kumar claimed five wickets to help EG gain a 23-run first innings lead. In the second innings K. Raja Ramesh took four wickets and Suresh two but rain denied their team a possible win.

For Srikakulam, R. Arun Kumar (three wickets followed by an unbeaten 61) and M. Laxminarayana with a total haul of seven wickets, impressed most.

Visakhapatnam's M.U.B. Sriram missed a century by two runs against Vizianagaram while P.E.V.K. Reddy claimed five wickets in the first innings and three in the second innings to earn a comprehensive win for the team.

The scores:

East Godavari 160 in 69 overs (K. Laxminarayana four for 26, ) and 130 for four decl. in 24.2 overs (M. Satyanarayana 59, A.V. Rajesh 41) drew with Srikakulam 137 in 51.3 overs (R. Arun Kumar 61 n.o., G.D.S. Suresh Kumar five for 12) and 57 for six in 21 overs (K. Raja Ramesh four for 25). East Godavari two points.

Vizianagaram 84 in 35 overs (P.E.V.K. Reddy five for 16) and 70 in 44.4 overs (Anuj Sabarwal four for 21) lost to Visakhapatnam 257 for five decl. in 55 overs (M.U.B. Sriram 98, Ch. Rajesh Yadav 62). Visakhapatnam 5 points. — Special Correspondent
