Krishna Chandran and Nigil shine

PALAKKAD: An impressive spell of five for 37 by fast bowler Krishna Chandran saw Central restrict North to 176 on the opening day of the three-day Jacob Trophy State senior inter-zonal cricket championship at the Fort Maidan here on Tuesday. Later, Abhinav played responsibly to guide Central to 90 for one at stumps.

North won the toss and decided to use the batting strip to its advantage. But the decision seemed to backfire as Krishna rattled the top order.

He got wickets at regular intervals and, at one stage, had North reeling at 63 for six. The scores:

North 176 in 53.4 overs (K. Nigil 70, Krishna Chandran five for 37, Sreekumar Nair two for 40, Anil Kumar two for 18) vs. Central 90 for one (M.P. Sorab 31, Abhinav 47 batting, Krishna Chandran 8 batting.) — Sports Reporter
