GREATER NOIDA (Uttar Pradesh): This season's Asian Tour winners Jyoti Randhawa and Gaurav Ghei have reaffirmed their commitment to take Indian golf to a new high and ruled out any "compromise" between the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and the Professional Golfers' Association of India (PGAI). The PGTI, formed recently by the players after resigning from the PGAI, is ready to stage its flagship event, the Rs. 70-lakh BILT Open golf championship at the Greg Norman-designed Jaypee Greens here from Thursday. The event will be the richest domestic event in any sporting discipline in the country till date. The previous biggest was the Rs. 50-lakh PSPB Open golf held in New Delhi last year. "The players understand the importance of value for money for our sponsors and also the potential of Indian golf," said Randhawa, who reached here for a practice round, 24 hours after winning the $ 400,000 Hero Honda Indian Open title at the Delhi Golf Club. So far, the PGTI has announced a six-event schedule totalling Rs. 3.30 crore till December this year. More events, with an additional prize-money of over Rs. two crore, are likely to be announced in due course.
