Rainwater enters homes in several areas

Water stagnation up to three feet on streets in southern suburbs

CHENNAI: Rain continued to lash Chennai and its suburbs for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday, disrupting normal life.

Meenambakkam received 14 cm and Nungambakkam 12 cm during the 24-hour reading till 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. Tambaram received 10 cm.

Lack or failure of stormwater drains was evident in several areas.

One person who wanted to wash his legs fell into the swollen Adyar near Ekkaduthangal off Guindy in the morning. Kumaran Nagar police said the body was fished out with the help of Fire and Rescue Services personnel.

Residents complained that water entered homes Ambattur, Vepery, Kolathur, Valasaravakkam and T.Nagar. The situation was worse in the southern suburbs, especially Madipakkam, Ullagaram and Perungudi, where clogged drains resulted in water stagnation up to three feet on the streets. Local Administration Minister M.K.Stalin reviewed the situation on Saturday.
