James nets winner

Dindigul: A goal scored by striker James in the 48th minute helped Tuticorin defeat Kanyakumari 1-0 and enter the semifinals of the 29th Tamil Nadu State junior inter-district football championship for T.P. Ramasamy Pillai Cup organised by Solar Sports Club at the Government HSS ground, Nilakottai near here on Saturday.

Tiruvallur also entered the semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Nilgiris in another match. It was Nilgiris which took the lead in the 50th minute through Pradeep Kumar.

Manivannan found the equaliser off a spot-kick in the 55th minute for Tiruvallur. Anandaraj scored the second in the 60th minute and completed the tally in the 72nd minute.

Prakash wins gold

S. Prakash of Government Higher Secondary School, Vellalur won the gold in the boys' U-19 section in the Madurai Divisional inter-Educational District schools road cycle race at Madurai on Saturday.

U-17: M. Parthiban (GHSS,Vellalur); U-14: P. Murugan (GHSS, Kottanathampatti);

Girls:

U-19: T. Meenambal (Govt Girls HSS, Melur); U-17: J. Nagasundari (OCPMGHSS); U-14: G. Parimalam (GHSS, KNP).
