KANDY: Sam Gunaratne emerged the men's champion in the Nett stableford category of the 11th Sri Lankan Airlines Golf Classic on Saturday at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort here on Saturday. His nearest competitor Hasith Jayawardena who did well to card a 41 on Friday, finished with a poor 32 on Saturday to end up at 73, two short of Sam. Jayawardena emerged joint third with R. Hameed. Rohan Aturaliya of Sri Lanka came second. In the women's section, L.J. Too of Malayasia won the Nett Stableford event with 72 points. Sri Lanka's S. Selvaratnam emerged second with 69 points. Peter M. Hill, CEO, Sri Lankan Airlines, gave away the prizes. The scores (final day): Men (Nett): 1. Sam Gunaratne (SL) 75 pts, 2. Rohan Aturaliya (SL) 74, 3. R.
