Patiala:
After spending two nights in jail, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, sentenced to three-year imprisonment in a road rage case, was released on Saturday on bail.
Mr. Sidhu was greeted by a number of BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal workers, led by local MLA Surjit Singh Rakhra, when he came out of the jail.
Mr. Sidhu and his friend Rupinder Singh Sandhu were released in the afternoon.
Though the Supreme Court granted him bail on Friday, Mr. Sidhu could not be released immediately, as the orders reached the jail authorities much later.
Mr. Sidhu and Mr. Sandhu had surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Chandigarh.
They were sent to the Patiala jail on Thursday.
The two were sentenced for causing the death of Patiala resident Gurnam Singh in a scuffle after an accident. PTI
