KOCHI: After mulling over the move for a few years, the State Bank of Travancore has finally decided to sign three foreign players for its football team. The Thiruvananthapuram-based bank had been banking on Kerala players even when it played the premier National Football League a few years ago. But now, tired with life in the second division, the SBT top brass has given the green signal to sign the foreigners. "We will be signing two African players soon. Discussions with these players are in the final stage," revealed SBT's Manager, Sports, T.P. Ajith Kumar on Saturday. "We will be playing the second division NFL in February or March and we want to strengthen our team before that," he said. The SBT has also decided to recruit five footballers and three cricketers this year which should be a big relief for Kerala sportspersons who have very few job opportunities in their home State. In cricket, it plans to employ an opening batsman, an all-rounder and an off-spinner.
