Counselling in education

ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING Volume 1 — Strategies for Guidance and Counselling: K. S. Lakshmi — Editor; Mittal Publications, A-110, Mohan Garden, New Delhi-110059. Rs. 600.

GUIDANCE AND counselling constitute a vital segment of activity in educational institutions all over the world. But it is a pity that in India, this aspect is not given the importance it deserves. When it comes to students at the adolescent stage of life who are faced with situations that are new and daunting, suitable counselling by mentors can go a long way in smoothing out matters and infusing confidence and cheer in the minds of the youth.

This volume takes the reader through the entire gamut of this fascinating theme. The author refers to the work of several experts and groups while delineating the contours of topics like "professional issue in group counselling," "therapeutic elements in group counselling" and "effective group leader." The work is a valuable addition to the available (rather scanty) literature on the subject.
