A fine musical pair
Sriram Parasuram and Anuradha... blend of styles.
IT IS all very well to talk about kadukkans and jarigai veshtis - yes he does make a statement with his appearance but beyond all that is his competence over two styles of music - the Hindustani and the Carnatic. Which goes for his wife too.
They both make a good team with a wealth of knowledge, which they share with the audiences in most of their concerts. Not too difficult to guess who this talented couple is! Yes. It is Sriram Parasuram and Anuradha Sriram who kept the audiences glued to their seats when they performed for the Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha at Vidya Bharati on December 28.
They demonstrated their voice culture, raga structuring and their adeptness at changing from one style to the other especially in ragas such as Hamsadhwani and the Malaiyamarutham.
It was enjoyable-- giving jugalbandhi a flavour that is uniquely theirs. Taranas, alaaps (with Anuradha at times sounding very much like Parveen Sultana especially in the higher octaves) and raga alapana were done with flourishes confident in their knowledge and skill - the best part being that their voices obeyed their command.
Accompanying them on the harmonium was Umakanth Puranaik, on the tabla Gurumurthy Vaidya, on the violin M. A Sundareswaran and Mannargudi A. Eswaran on the mridangam.
