Boost to talent
VARNAM IS the all- inclusive feature of the art, including its complex syntax of pure dance patterns, inter-related with interpretation of situations, more commonly displaying the mood of sringara. Aarti Mohan, who participated in the Talent Promotion Programme organised by the Indian Fine Arts Society on January 2 and 3, as a fitting finale to its 69th SIMCF, was adjudged the best among 12, who had enlisted for the contest. Her nritta and nritya, each time beginning with a different raga,``Swamiyai Azhaithu Vaadi," with her Guru, Revati Ramchandran wielding the cymbals clinched the issue.Anwesh Das was declared the second best. A disciple of Urmila Satyanarayana and A. Lakshmanan, of Natya Sankalpa, Chennai, she engages herself in solo as well as in group dances.
Revati Ramachandran was also prized as the best Natyacharya for conducting Aarti Mohan's performance. E. Gayatri, born to play the veena, and president of the 69th annual festival, distributing the prizes to the winners in the concerts held earlier, spoke eulogising them and appreciated the Society's efforts to promote talent in both music and in dance.
