Melodic expanse

TYAGARAJA'S ``MUNDUVENUGA'' in Durbar was sung with feeling and emotion by Nedunuri Krishnamurti in his vocal recording, broadcast on Chennai's A channel on January 20. His Dhanyasi alapana replete with refinement, rakti and dignity was a verdant melodic expanse. Tyagaraja's ``Nee Chitamu'', one of the vidvan's all time preferences, and the kalpana swaras imparted a rare musical quality.

The expansion of Kedaragowla with the singer's voice in mint condition had the texture and quality of seasoned wine, while ``Tulasi Bilva'' of Tyagaraja was a soothing interpretation. Coimbatore Dakshinamurthy 's alapana was one of exuberance and energy. Palghat Raghu on the mridangam and the Kanjira vidwan Harishankar were in competent charge of the percussion.
