Decorated for service to culture
EMINENT MUSICOLOGIST Dr. Navaneetham Padmanabha Seshadri, scholar, administrator and chairman of the National Cultural Organisation has been awarded the Padmashri this year for his pioneering and outstanding work towards the promotion of traditional culture for over 55 years.
Dr. Seshadri has held important senior positions in the Government of India. He is the recipient of many awards like the Tansen Award, Tyagaraja Award, Mayur Award, National Handloom Award, Asian Cultural Award, Hakim Khan Suri Award, Kalai Kavalan Award, Guruvayur Elephant Award and many others. He is also an eminent writer, journalist, musician and cultural organiser who has carved a niche for himself in the cultural arena.
He has studied astrological science deeply, from palm leaves at various places including the Saraswati Mahal, and his predictions have been correct.
Dr. Seshadri introduced cultural programmes in exhibitions and places of public interest, especially when a programme like family planning had to be propagated.
He popularised Indian handloom throughout the world as its commissioner.
