A film with a screenplay by Melissa Mathison that is being re released in a new edition will remind children of today of a trend setter in film history where perhaps for the first time aliens are shown as friendly and not hostile. They are wise, benevolent and extremely lovable, if ET is anything to go by. Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment bring back this wonderful story of a special friendship between a ten-year-old boy, Eliot, living in the suburbs of California and an alien left behind by his space ship. Discovering that ET wants to go home, Eliot tries ways and means of getting him to communicate with his planet. But they must avoid scientists and other interested parties who would wish to make this their pet project. In the process they have one of the most exciting adventures that take the viewers literally through the skies and slopes, meadows and slush, magic and the routine. With Dee Wallace Stone, Peter Coyote, Drew Barrymore, Henry Thomas and Robert Macnaughton in the cast, the film was the outcome of Steven Spielberg's fascination with extra terrestrials and life outside the planet earth. Heartwarming, if a bit mushy, this is a film kids would enjoy watching all over again!
