Carving a unique niche
GAYATHRI JAYARAM'S much-hyped debut in "Manadhai Thirudi Vittai" didn't do much for her career. But that's in Tamil. Her entry into Kannada filmdom seems to have augured well for her "Neela", her first Kannada film directed by Nagabharana, has bagged four Film Fans' Association awards. Gayathri has won the award for Best Actress.
Her "Aadalu Paadalu", in Telugu, ("Sundara Travels" will be its Tamil remake) she says, has done well too. This model-turned actress will next be seen in "Sri" the Tamil line-up also includes "Parattai", with Anoop Kumar, and "April Madhathil", with Srikanth.
Dancing to success
Lawrence is the latest dancing sensation in the Tamil industry. But few know that he began his career under `Super' Subbarayan as a stunt man, though his interest was in dance.
During the shooting of the Hindi remake of ``Dharmathin Thalaivan'' Rajnikanth happened to watch him dance. He was so impressed that he asked him to come over and meet him the next day. Lawrence, however, got the opportunity only after a week and at the meeting Rajni gave him the cine dancers association's membership card. The dancer has not looked back since and now he is a choreographer for "Baba". "I have done my best for the 'Maya Maya' song and Rajnikanth liked it a lot. I am doing two films as hero," Lawrence says.
Commendable move
The South Indian Artists Association is going places to help indigent artistes. A group of over 100 members, Rajini and Kamal have also agreed to join them, will tour Kuala Lumpur and Singapore on July 27 and 28 to entertain film lovers there. The proceeds of the shows will be used to help artistes who are facing hard times. This was decided at a meeting held recently.
