Artist of substance
A series of cultural events taking place in Bhubaneswar notwithstanding, amateur artist Tapan Moharana's recent show at the Utkal University campus received an encouraging response from the audience.
A final year post-graduate student of Geography, Tapan has been a self-made artist of substance. "It has been my childhood obsession to paint and as I grew up I found it my medium of self-expression," explained the young painter who has two national level prizes to his credit and has hosted 10 such shows in different towns of Orissa.
"I want to communicate my views on life and society through my paintings. Children and women have been my major subjects," added Tapan whose collection of 62 paintings was inaugurated by the University Vice-Chancellor. Some of his works such as `My dreams', `A tribute to Ustad Bismilla Khan', `Miles ahead', `Tomorrow never dies', `I want to fly' and `My obsession' had the touch of a professional painter with an impressive colour scheme and texture.
"I organised this show to share my feelings with my friends in the campus. I had never imagined that common people and art admirers will flock in large numbers," he smiled.
