Theatre festival gets a boost

Parachuri Brothers reinforce their commitment to the Raghubabu Memorial Theatre Festival.



PLAY TIME Theatre gets fillip.

The Raghubabu Memorial annual theatre festival received a tremendous boost with its sponsors Paruchuri Brothers announcing an amount of Rs. 1crore for the smooth conduct of the festival.

Named after Raghubabu (son of Venkateshwara Rao), the festival received good response over the last 17 years.

Their family members would continue the legacy or in case they fail, this Trust money would go to Thyagaraya Gana Sabha for the same purpose. Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao announced this at the awards ceremony of the 17th Raghubabu Memorial theatre festivalat Ravindra Bharathi. He said that the trust has Rs. 35.5 lakhs on hand and the rest would soon be arranged.

The Chairman of the State Cultural Council, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, who presided, called these theatre festivals as gateway for the talented actors to move from theatre to cinema. Producer-director R. Narayanamurthy was also excited at the proposal and appealed to Paruchuri Brothers to write scripts for small budget films too.

Rachapundu and Sapagrastulu were the full-length plays that received the best and second best awards for production. Sapagrastulu also received awards for best script and best director.

It also brought best villain award to A. Mallesh. Malladi Sivanarayana was chosen as best actor for his role in Rachapundu.

A. Poorna was chosen as best comedian in the play Rachapundu and Sri Lakshmi received best character actress award. The supporting actor's award was given to D. Sridevi for her portrayal in Ammoru.

The best actress award went to Vijaya Rani (Dwanda samasam). S. Dikshit was given Jury award for his role in Laya Tappina Koila. Of the 15playlets which entered the competition Talli Kshaminchu staged by Palakollu Creators was chosen for best production award. Amma Kshaminchu bagged the best playlet award.
