Deft and delicate: Ambience of a balcony at Chez Elle
An intense involvement with design and a sense of deft delicacy permeate everything on view at interior designer Shankar Prasad’s showroom, Chez Elle.
The minimalist décor, the off-white walls, new age lighting effects and even the drama of lush purple curtains give every item, a contemporary, tropical look.
There’s a diffused water colour-like charm about many of the products on display. The focus of Prasad’s collection is the natural look.
The products are made from banana fibre, screw pine, coconut shell, clay, wood, mother of pearl and even cloves. The finish is stunning.
While many of furniture items and artefacts are sourced from Bali and Thailand, an Indian presence can be seen in the crackleware pottery and Prasad’s own creative inputs of bronze furniture, carpets etc. Woven leather furniture pieces from non polluting units make striking lifestyle statements.
A series of teak and oak wood lamp stands, compete with Burmese wire lamps in colours and shapes.
And there is lovely handcrafted woodenware from Thailand along with painted ceramics. For the table, rare, exotic touches are provided by stainless steel serving spoons, Thai ceramic dishes and exquisitely crafted mother of pearl trays.
Chez Elle (99400 54825; 98840 81651) is situated at No. 65, Bishop Garden, Greenways Road.
