Art works by K. Ravi, an accredited artist were on display at Hotel Palm Beach last week. Ravi who completed M.F.A. with specialisation in painting under the tutelage of Jogen Chowdary at Kalabhavan, Viswabharathi University, Santiniketan, after ob
taining BFA from A.U., is known for his design of works in modern art form.
The vista of verdant environs of rural landscape where he was born and brought up gets abstractly reflected in his w
orks. They stand marked with an admixture of vibrant vocabulary of the pen and ink and the palette of water colours and acrylics on one hand and techniques of abstraction and cubism either on paper or canvas on the other. Many of his works found their way to many a prestigious art galleries in the country.
The exhibition included four pieces of his art that were selected to be sent for display in Henry Moore Gallery at the Loyal College of Art, London, as part of the festival ‘India Now’ that is being organised by the London Mayor.
Human figures with perfectly round faces and large high balls with iris diaphragms and pupils of conformable size in same form depicted amidst environs of myriad hues of nature, varieties of flora and fauna was the motif that recurred in all the works. The figures, though depicted in different attire reflecting different attitude, invariably seemed to be quite at home with the flora and fauna around.
The imaginative design of each picture over all in abstraction and semi-abstraction techniques reflected glimpses of Madhuvanthi folk form of art of Madhya Pradesh and commanded contemplative attention of all visitors.
