Crafts that beckon



Irresistible pieces: At the expo

Sponsored by the Uttar Pradesh Artisans Welfare Society, the U.P. Expo is being held from June 27 – July 9, (10 a.m. to 9.30 p.m.) including Sundays, at Sri Sankara Hall, TTK Road, Alwarpet (Ph: 94452 14616).


The exhibition has on display, wood work from Sahranpur, chikankari from Lucknow, Khurja pottery that includes decorated tea sets, dinner plates, coffee mugs and soup bowls, Bhadoi’s stylish black pottery, and alluring craft pieces such as stone and silk painting and rosewood tables from Rajasthan and Gujarat, appliqué and palm leaf engraving from Orissa and terracotta from Kolkata. Besides common items such as sofa sets, the U.P. wood work on show includes garden chairs, rest chairs, chest of drawers and corner stands.
